Ceramic Lamp “Lembyk. Lion FPV”

Lembyks are a unique phenomenon in the Ukrainian ceramic tradition. This term referred to zoomorphic vessels shaped like rams, bulls, horses, lions, birds, and other animals. They combined utilitarian, decorative, and symbolic meanings, and each animal personified a specific strength and character.

“Lembyk. Lion FPV” is our modern reinterpretation of this ancient ceramic form.

In many cultures, the lion is a symbol of strength, courage, and dignity. In our work, it is equipped with FPV goggles and transforms into the image of a modern Ukrainian warrior—a drone operator who sees the battlefield differently and controls the technology that has changed the course of modern warfare.

FPV has transformed the very logic of combat operations. Constant aerial surveillance, rapid target detection, and the ability to deliver precision strikes have influenced the movement of military equipment, infantry operations, the establishment of positions, logistics, and operational planning. Ukraine’s experience has forced armies around the world to rethink their approaches to modern warfare.

In 2024, Ukraine became the first country in the world to establish a separate branch of the military—the Unmanned Systems Forces. This branch integrates aerial, ground, and maritime unmanned platforms, reconnaissance, fire control, precision strikes, logistics, and the development of cutting-edge technologies.

Behind every flight is more than just an operator. It is the work of engineers, developers, pilots, analysts, intelligence officers, and entire teams who are constantly refining the technology and the tactics for its use.

“Lembyk. Lion FPV” is dedicated to these people—those who have turned technology into a weapon of defense, changed the situation on the battlefield, and continue to liberate Ukrainian territory from Russian occupiers.

The Creation Process

At the heart of every Lembyk is slip casting using Sloviansk clay sourced from the Donetsk region, near the front lines.

This material holds special symbolic meaning for us. The image of a drone warrior is literally born from the Ukrainian soil he defends. The clay from Sloviansk becomes not only the material for creating the lamp but also a part of its history—earth that passes through fire yet retains its strength.

After casting, each Lembyk is finished by hand. The artisan refines the shape, texture, and the finest details, so no two lamps are exactly alike. Each has its own character and the unique features of handcrafted work.

To apply color, we use the aerosol glazing technique. It allows us to achieve an even coating, create soft transitions, and emphasize the sculpture’s volume.

Lembyks are available in white and black, and can be custom-made in any other color upon request.

Each piece undergoes two firings in a special ceramic kiln: the first strengthens the clay form, and the second sets the glaze and final color.

Lighting and Components

Each Lembyk comes with electrical components—a cable with a switch and plug, as well as a G9 LED bulb.

Warm, atmospheric light passes through the openings in the ceramic form, bringing the sculpture to life and highlighting its character.

“Lembyk. Lion FPV” is more than just a ceramic lamp. It is a fusion of Ukrainian tradition, contemporary art, and the technological history of the war that Ukraine is writing right now.
