Guatemala Nuevo Oriente (pear, apricot, cream)

The Oriente region, also known as Nuevo Oriente, is located in eastern Guatemala, near the border with Honduras.

Coffee production began to develop rapidly here in the 1950s and became a key driver of economic growth for this previously isolated region. The terrain is mountainous and was once of volcanic origin, but the soils here are not typically volcanic, as in most of the country’s coffee-growing regions, but rather metamorphic and rich in minerals. This unique soil structure, combined with a cool and rainy climate, creates a special microclimate that is ideal for the slow ripening of coffee cherries.

The plantations are located at altitudes ranging from 1,300 to 1,700 meters above sea level, which allows for the cultivation of “Strictly Hard Bean” coffee with high bean density. Here, coffee is grown primarily by small family farms. Most farmers have small plots where, in addition to coffee, they grow corn, vegetables, and fruits for their own consumption.
