Gayo Region
This coffee comes from Terry Farm—a farmer partnership program coordinated by PT. Jingki Roda Gayo.
The Gayo region in Aceh is known worldwide as one of the best terroirs for growing Arabica. The history of Gayo coffee began in the early 20th century, when the Dutch colonial administration introduced Arabica seedlings to the region around 1908. Today, Gayo coffee is grown primarily in three districts: Central Aceh, Bener Meriah, and Gayo Lues.
The combination of volcanic soil, hilly terrain, cool temperatures, and regular rainfall creates a unique terroir for growing the highest-quality coffee. After the end of the colonial era, smallholder farmers continued the tradition of coffee cultivation, developing sustainable shade-grown farming practices. For the Gayo people, coffee is the “lifeblood of the community,” supporting nearly every household and serving as an integral part of their cultural identity.
To increase yields and quality, farmers collaborate through the PT. Jingki Roda Gayo (Terry Farm Project) partnership program, cultivating plots ranging from 0.5 to 2 hectares.
